The west zone journal completed 22 years with several distinguished editors being a part of the journey. Changing times required the journal to be an online one with regular issues. The need for MCI- approved indexing bases was another factor to streamline the journal. It is now mandatory for all print journals to be registered with the Registrar of Newspapers for India,[1] which made it necessary to start afresh. After taking the editor's post, I realized the importance of the registration and ISSN numbers for both the print and online versions. A new beginning was the answer as we neither had continuity in the previous issues nor any archives section on the zonal website. It also made us realize that indexing databases would definitely not favor us, due to this lag. Thus, Annals of Indian Psychiatry was born after a lot of discussion. Annals means a record of events arranged in yearly sequence or the official records of an organization, arranged according to their date from Latin word Latin annales, from plural of annalis yearly first used around 1542.[2] Archives meant a collection of historical documents and records about a place, organization, etc.;[2] so technically speaking, our journal name has not changed much. The process of tying up with the publishers, signing the MOU, and getting started was done promptly due to our proactive President Dr. Nilesh Shah, Secretary Dr. Jay Shastri, and all EC members who have responded to the umpteen messages and emails quickly so that I could bring out the first issue as per the promise. The cover design done by Gopi Kukde depicts the pathos and the thinker and portrays the essence of psychiatry.

The west zone is a continuous hub of activities over the year of which research by postgraduates and their teachers forms a major part. Our zonal papers have received the highest national awards in the last few years, but sadly, we could not speak of these achievements through our archives. Researchers shied away from sending papers for publication in our journal. The hardworking, enthusiastic editorial team hopes to end this vicious cycle. The journal format now also includes a postgraduate corner with new ideas, quiz, movie, book, and art reviews to help our lateral thinking.

This issue has started off with much needed elaborate reviews on the School Mental Health Programme in Maharashtra by Gujar and Pingale which highlights the need to develop and implement the existing school mental health services for benefit of children. Shah and Trivedi have elaborated on the understanding of specific learning disabilities and the current certification process. These are balanced by original research questions of medical postgraduate students' motivation and attitude to research by Sawant et al. as well as understanding suicidal behaviors of medical and paramedical students by Patel et al. We have an interesting case series using psychoanalytic theory to come to diagnostic formulations to tease our cognitive processes. For clinicians, we have good reading of anxiety in patients of alopecia and risk factors associated with depression in medically ill patients. Lukose has opened our minds to faith and reason. The journal would like to publish all the award winning papers and posters presented in the annual conference of the western zonal branch. I would therefore appeal to all our young researchers to send their articles to our zonal journal.

The new editorial team has a sound Advisory Board and a committed Editorial Board who will be a source of support and encouragement to take the journal ahead in its journey. The journal also has Avinash Desousa and Parag Shah as Associate Editors and Devavrat Harshe and Ashish Srivastava as Assistant Editors. The Editorial Managers at Wolters Kluwer India Pvt., Ltd., are committed professionals who will continue to keep the journal's manuscript management system at par with world standards over the next 5 years. It is our endeavor to have articles available online within a few days of their acceptance to increase their visibility, readership, and downloads for personal use. The new editorial team will continue the good work and make all efforts to ensure that the journal becomes the face of our zone. Finally, I would like to thank Dr. Jayita Deodhar for motivating me to take up the editor's post and supporting me.
